Job Summary:
The Aquaculture Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and managing aquaculture operations, ensuring the health and productivity of aquatic species, and implementing sustainable practices. This role involves technical expertise, research, and collaboration with teams to optimize production and maintain high standards of quality and environmental responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day aquaculture operations, including feeding, breeding, and harvesting of aquatic species.
Monitor water quality, temperature, and other environmental factors to ensure optimal conditions for aquatic life.
Develop and implement strategies to improve production efficiency, species health, and sustainability.
Conduct research and stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in aquaculture.
Collaborate with biologists, engineers, and other specialists to design and improve aquaculture systems.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to aquaculture and environmental protection.
Train and supervise staff on proper aquaculture techniques and safety protocols.
Maintain accurate records of production, health, and environmental data.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to species health, equipment, or system performance.
Promote sustainable practices and educate stakeholders on the benefits of responsible aquaculture.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Proven experience in aquaculture operations, preferably in [specific species or systems, e.g., finfish, shellfish, recirculating systems].
Strong knowledge of aquatic species biology, water quality management, and aquaculture systems.
